Is better to have reservations, however the restaurant is big and if you are willing to wait for a bit they will seat you once a table opens up. Everything was amazing presentation, food , customer service, perfect to celebrate a birthday. Joan was our waiter, great customer service!!

Oh wow, where do I begin.. the food was exquisite, the place had great vibes and just perfect after a hot afternoon walking the pyramids. We loved it, the mole and the barbacoa were chefs kiss! The margaritas amazing! The candle ritual was a nice way to wrap up the evening.

I went to Mexico City recently as a birthday present from my daughter . She said that the only thing she asks is for us to have lunch at La Gruta. I googled it and saw that it was a cave restaurant located near the Pyramids of Teotihuacan. I immediately booked a tour to see the pyramids ( which was about .7 miles away ) and crossed my fingers . We both have not been to the area and didn't know what to expect. I read several reviews from TripAdvisor and they were mixed . I dreaded getting a stomach bug since some reviews say they got sick after eating there . Anyway, the is review may enlighten you and ease your perceptions . PROS: -The place have clean restrooms with a lady even handing out paper towels to dry your hands - The place has been there since 1905 which means they are institution and trust is important - They have a heater and WiFi - Service was attentive and didn't seem rushed ( we went on a Monday but place was still full ) - It was a once in a lifetime experience to eat in a natural cave - I like the part where they have you light a candle at the end of your meal to offer to the gods in the area to remove the bad juju . CONS - I would have given it 5 stars except our soup could have been warmer . I think serving it from the pitcher made it cold - I suggest make it piping hot before putting in pitcher especially since it's Wintertime . - alcohol in the cocktails very weak - More meal selections would be good Yes, the prices were higher than what you would expect ( it is a tourist destination ) but with all the effort going into this remote area, I would say it is warranted . It was a pleasant experience for us and I would have missed it if we didn't go. Make time to go since it's about 45 minutes from the city .

A pretty good lunch after our hot air balloon ride and walking around the pyramids. It's definitely a slight tourist trap in the sense that prices are pretty expensive comparative to other local foods. We also had some pretty poor service where we were waiting around for a server for a very long time and then the the menu was a QR code except there was limited service and their wifi was not working. Which was frustrating when we were already starving. BUT - our servers were friendly and the food was really really good. And it's a beautiful and very unique place.

One of the most amazing and unforgettable culinary experiences of my life. The ambiance speaks for itself, Brandon was our server and although he was slammed he was great! The food was beyond tasteful with ingredients sourced from local farmers to replicate ancient culinary traditions. I just COULDN'T GET OVER THE EXPLOSION OF FLAVOR! The sauce was indescribably spectacular! Brandon told me it was: Chile manzano tatemado, xoconostle, jugo de limon. ***A must for anyone seeing the pyramids!***

Who doesn't want to eat in a cave? The restaurant is located behind the Pyramid of the Sun. My tour guide and I put our name in around 2pm and waited 5 minutes for a table, even though 75% of the restaurant was empty. Bathrooms are located on the ground level a bit across from the restaurant. Once you go down the stairs into the restaurant it's so colorful, and a nice break as it is cool, and shaded. We ordered: Lemon margarita - bomb, excellent Fajitas - ok Guacamole- great Rib eye - similar to an Outback Steakhouse Mostly came here for the ambiance. I'd only order the margarita and Guacamole if I ever came back.

This place is so beautiful, I knew I had to eat here when in the area. Went to Teotihuacán to explore the pyramids, and made a reservation to eat here after. It is very close and within walking distance. There were plenty of people asking where we were headed and directing us towards the right direction. We arrived a bit early to our reservation, and were directed towards the bathrooms as there is none at the restaurant (they're located on top near the main entrance). We were seated quickly and provided with two cardboard mats which also had the QR code for the menu on them. The restaurant has WiFi so you don't have any issues with reception. We tried their guacamole and chicken fajitas. The chicharrón in the guacamole was so good. The fajitas were also very tasty. Out food was accompanied with chips and tortillas. We also got their Jamaica and frozen mango margarita without alcohol. The Jamaica was okay, it tasted a bit watered down. The mango margarita was amazing! There is plenty of seating and so beautiful and colorful. It is such a unique dining experience, I definitely recommend.

4.5/5 stars We made a reservation and were seated quickly. My bf and I got the Quetzalcoatl salad (cactus and other veggies with tortilla crisps), fire-grilled flank steak, pork belly with macnhamanteles mole, the chocolate cake with amaranth flour with hibiscus and guava ice cream, and the grilled pineapple with honey and orange blossom ice cream The Quetzalcoatl salad was unique, and the tortilla crisps added texture. The pork belly was surprisingly good. Even without the fat, the meat itself was very tender, and the mole had so much flavor. The chocolate cake was warm, but wasn't super sweet. It went well with the ice cream, although the guava ice cream was a little too sour for me. The pineapples had a unique flavor (flavored with root beer plant). I enjoyed the honey and orange blossom ice cream that came with the pineapples. This restaurant is a super unique experience (it's inside this cavity of volcano origin) with a long history (apparently Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera had been there). Food-wise it would be 4/5 stars, but increasing the rating due to beautiful ambiance.
